Barfoot & Thompson has a long-standing history with Auckland Marathon, previously holding the principal sponsorship of the Half Marathon and Kids Marathon. To further cement our support for one of Auckland's biggest days out, we stepped up to Title Partner for the main event in 2022. We maintain our Title Partner status and continue our principal sponsorship with the Wheelchair Division and Kids Marathon in 2025.

This is a natural fit for our company as our love of Auckland is well known. We have been supported by Auckland communities for over 100 years and likewise, we have been supporting community groups and events for almost as long.

In 2024, we had over 350 Barfoot & Thompson staff take part - as a participant or volunteer - and 450 staff, family, friends and supporters joining our area throughout the day.

As the day went on, the lines at the food trucks certainly got longer, and the massage tent was well utilised!

The 2024 event by the numbers:

• More than $10,500 raised by our people for the Starship Foundation

• Almost 18,000 participants across all distances

• Over 7,000 trackable interactions with our brand through our expo competitions and competitions

• More than 3,000 registered marathoners, the highest number for more than 10 years

• An almost even gender split, with 51% male and 49% female registered athletes

• The marathon distance proved popular with women, with registered female participants up 44% compared to last year

• 35 was the average age of participants

• The youngest runner was 5 years old, while the oldest was 86 years old

• 62% of participants were first timers to the event

• Aucklanders made up 68% of participants

• 57 nationalities were represented this year

• The most represented nations were: New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom, United States, and China
